In case you skip it...

This episode has enough problems that it isn’t really worth watching, but a couple of important things do happen.

First, it turns out that Vedek Bareil and Kai Winn have been secretly pursuing peace talks with members of the Cardassian Central Command for some months. By the end of the episode, a new Bajoran-Cardassian Treaty is signed.

However, Vedek Bareil dies from complications due to a plasma explosion.

It should be more poignant than it is, but the episode does a lot to damage the emotional weight of the moment. My advice is to think “Aww, poor Kira” and move on.
