This episode reveals that despite her death in Star Trek: First Contact, the Borg Queen is still around. She claims that Seven was planted on Voyager deliberately as a spy, and she now wants Seven to rejoin the Collective to share what she’s learned so that humanity may be assimilated.

Voyager manages to rescue Seven and get away unassimilated, apparently killing the Queen in the process (though it’s not like that stopped her before, of course). They additionally steal a transwarp coil which takes them twenty thousand light-years closer to Earth before it burns out, shaving another fifteen years or so off their journey home.
